How to Prepare for a Spray Tan

Most people who sign up for spray on tans are well aware of how they work. The DHA rich chemical that is distributed on your skin with your spray on tan can last from four days to a week or longer sometimes even two weeks depending on how you take care of your skin before you have the spray on tan solution applied as well as how you care for your skin afterwards. Both of these can be a bit confusing if you’ve never gotten a spray tan before, but with practice you can quickly learn what’s best for your skin to keep the tanning long lasting and glowing with an even streak free shine.

If you want a spray on tan to work to the best of its ability you need to shower beforehand. During your shower, you should use a loofah or dead skin removing wash cloth to remove all the excess dead skin from your body, cleansing scrubs may also help remove these access skin cells. After your shower, it is important that you don’t wear any cosmetics, deodorants, lotions, nothing. You shouldn’t apply anything to your skin before your tan because all of these things can clog your pores and prevent the tanning solution from soaking in to its full ability making it last for less time than it could as well as possibly leaving it splotchy. Not to mention you don’t know how the chemicals in your cosmetics are going to react with the chemicals in the spray tan solution. In addition, the only thing you should be applying is the lotion provided to you for the backs of your hands and feet as well as your nails to avoid discolouration that can be unsightly and pesky.

As long as you make sure that your skin is as bare as possible you should have a tan that sticks well and doesn’t fade as easily. It is important that you also don’t sweat too much before you have your spray on tan applied so if you were thinking about running to the salon, think again. Make sure you endure the showering process directly before your spray tan.
