How Spray on Tan Works

Perhaps you’ve heard of the newest fad hitting the streets, spray tanning. Spray tanning has become not only a celebrity favourite but is now becoming widely used among average people as well, and for good reason. Providing all of the effects of a beach tan with none of the consequences like skin cancer or wrinkles, spray on tan is a great development in cosmetics if that’s the category you’d put it under. Many tanning salons offer spray on tans in their facilities using something called tanning booths, in these booths you are supposed to stand wearing the proper items only for ten to twenty seconds while the tan is sprayed evenly over your body and you are tanned in seconds, afterwards you are supposed to wipe off the excess tanning spray and air dry before getting dressed.

Spray on tanning works by using a substance called DHA. DHA comes from plants like sugar cane and during studies done dated as far back as the 1950’s, DHA had shown to cause a browning effect of the skin when applied. Sometime around the 70’s, DHA was approved by the FDA to be safe for external usage and was then a leading ingredient in many cosmetic brands among other products. In today’s world, great innovation and creativity have helped people come up with what we now know as the spray on tan, or sunless tanning. This has been a very popular tool for both men and woman in the recent years and is causing quite a buzz.

Once you find the preferred tanning salon to apply your spray tan, you simply wear a protective cap to cover your hair, a swimsuit, and rub a lotion made especially for your skin before spray on tan on your fingernails, toenails, elbows, feet, and the back of your hands to prevent unwanted discolouration. You hold your breath while the tanning solution is sprayed for about ten to twenty seconds and viola, you’re finished and you can leave with a glowing tan that doesn’t cause skin cancer! It’s an amazing discovery and is becoming more preferred and affordable with time.
